The material to be provided to FIGIS-FIRMS by the CCSBT include a resource and fact sheet containing information on the structure of the southern bluefin tuna fishery and the current assessment of the stock's status.
The CCSBT has mandated responsibility for the management and conservation of southern bluefin tuna and the information supplied will be for this species only. There is a shared responsibility with the IOTC but it is agreed that the CCSBT will have primary responsibility. Where relevant, the CCSBT will coordinate data provision to FIGIS/FIRMS with the IOTC. The source of the data supplied are summary data supplied from the fisheries of CCSBT members; information provided by cooperating non-members directly to the CCSBT; estimates from catch monitoring programs conducted at cooperating non-member ports; and other sources where appropriate.
The main bibliographical source for the CCSBT resource and fact sheet is the annual CCSBT Scientific Committee Report. This information is supplemented with relevant outcomes of the annual meeting of the commission.
The information contributed conforms to CCSBT policy guidelines for confidentiality and information release and whenever possible, to the Information Management Policy established by the FIRMS Steering Committee.
Sources and Traceability Reports of the CCSBT Scientific Committee and the Annual Meeting of the CCSBT, which are the main source of the information published on FIRMS, are published on the CCSBT web site at ![]() The data published on FIRMS originates through a data exchange from CCSBT members and cooperating non-members, and is maintained on the CCSBT database managed by the Secretariat. Most of the data published on FIRMS is first published on the CCSBT web site at ![]() Transparency and Peer-Review Transparency and peer-review of stock assessments and the data is ensured through the CCSBT Stock Assessment Process which is described at ![]() Consistency and accuracy The contributions from the CCSBT are managed using standards that do not alter the integrity of the information provided. Information Security All contributions provided by CCSBT are on the public domain. The FIGIS-FIRMS system identifies the material provided as being the property of the CCSBT. The information contributed to FIRMS resides under the full ownership (hence responsibility) of the CCSBT. Methods used in authentication and verification of this information lie on the FIRMS security mechanisms, including a role for a CCSBT editor and a CCSBT approver. Timeliness The information for a specific year will be provided within 6 months of the CCSBT's annual meeting following that year. In practice, this is usually within 16 months of the conclusion of the specific year.
