The P. caeruleostictus species is commonly known as blue-spotted sea bream. It appears to be a single stock which is exploited by the same types of industrial and artisanal fisheries. The Working Group therefore decided to assess it as a single stock.

Bio Assess

Assessment year: 2013
The CECAF Working Groups have adopted the following Biological Reference Points (BRPs):
- Limit Reference points: BMSY and FMSY
- Target Reference Points: B0.1 and F0.1
Stock status is assigned based on current estimates of fishing mortality (Fcur) and biomass (Bcur) relative to these target and limit reference points (Bcur/BMSY, Fcur/FMSY, Bcur/B0.1, Fcur/F0.1). The results from the stock assessment of this stock are found under the “Biological state and trend section”.
Assess Models
Type:  Biomass-aggregated
Schaefer dynamic production model

The catch series of P. caeruleostictus for Mauritania, Senegal and The Gambia were used as total catch series. For the abundance index series, the Working Group tested the CPUE series of the Mauritanian artisanal fishery (hand line) and that of the Senegalese ice canoes. As the data for these artisanal fleets do not allow for a model fit, the data for the line fishing motorized canoes in Senegal were used for the assessments.
Results

The available data were not sufficient to obtain conclusive results for the assessment of Pagrus caeruleostictus.
Sci Advice

Considering the uncertainties about the origin of the catches and the representativeness of the CPUE of the stock abundance, as a precaution, the Working Group recommends not to exceed the 2008 fishing mortality.
