Overview: Also known as Tuna Pole and Line fishery. Steal-hulled vessels with size ranging from 40 to over 90m. Operators begin with fishing for live bait, usually anchovies, with purse seine nets at bait grounds (below the 30m depth). Bait is stored in bait wells, after which the boat moves to tuna fishing grounds farther and beyond the 30m in the neritic or oceanic zone to fish. Vessels may return to baiting grounds when bait wells are empty. Tuna is preserved by freezing on-board. Trip duration averagely three months. Main species exploited in this fishery are: yellowfin tuna, skipjack tuna, and bigeye tuna.
