Overview: Locally built wooden vessels generally of 8 - 37m in length with in-board engines of up to 400 hp. There are two categories of these fleets during purse seining; the smaller vessels (12m length and below) and the larger vessels (above 12m). The main fishing season for the smaller vessels is mostly the Sardinella season. Inshore purse seiners do daily trips and the main species exploited in this fishery are Sardinellas, mackerels, Decapterus spp, etc.
