Results

The spiny lobster fishery in Mexico can be considered stable and observed fluctuations are due to the impact of environmental factors and coastal development.
Sci Advice

• Stock assessment models need to be improved incorporating the distribution of fishing effort and lobster stocks, as well as migration and recolonization patterns of fishing areas. • To increase and strengthen the interdisciplinary approach and the integration of scientific and non-scientific knowledge. • Given the complexity of the Caribbean spiny lobster life cycle and its wide distribution, it is necessary that fishery management is made by fishing areas with national and regional regulations. • Strengthen fisheries monitoring with periodic stock assessments.
