Management Methods

Conservation and management methods with focus on Input & Output control

  • Aquatic species-related measures
Size limits applied as minimum legal length for major commercial species. The total length of the narrow-barred Spanish mackerel should not be less than 45 cm.
  • Vessel-related measures
No new licenses for dhows are issued.
  • Fishing activity-related measures
Input control by limiting the number of fishing trips (3 landings/vessel/month) during April-June every year. Closed fishing season from 15 August - 15 October for the narrow-barred Spanish mackerel using drift gillnets. Other fisheries open during this period, using other gears such as handlines.
Status and Trends

Fluctuating according to fishing effort.
